Fitness Tip from Nikki Gregg

For the past two weeks, I have been helping Nikki Gregg film her new Stand Up Paddle Fitness video.  I think this video will be really useful to those paddlers out there who appreciate the fitness aspect of Stand Up.  I asked Nikki what one of her favorite exercises that can be done to improve someone’s paddling, and this is what she gave me….

Begin in a plank position on your stand up board out on the water.  Make sure that you are centered in the middle of the board so that you don’t rock from side to side.

Keeping your shoulders, hips and toes in line, bring your right knee up to touch your right arm.  Keep your back nice and straight and use your abdominal muscles to do the work for you.

Return your right leg to the starting position, and then repeat the exercise with your left leg.  Repeat this for 30 second to 1 minute intervals to strengthen your core!

For more information about Nikki Gregg and her Stand Up Paddle Fitness program, visit her site at http://www.nikkigregg.com.  Also, look for her new Stand Up Paddle Fitness Video which should be available in the early spring of 2010.
